How to calculate the square footage of a room
- 1Split the room into rectangles (and triangles or circles if needed).
- 2Enter each shape. Choose "Subtract" for parts to leave out, like a chimney breast.
- 3The total appears in square metres and square feet, and for plots in hectares, acres and marla.
Square footage formulas for any shape

Any flat room can be split into these simple shapes. Add the areas together and subtract anything that isn't part of the floor.

- Measure to the wall, not the skirting, and measure twice.
